Wrap Up at Sunset - Introducing New Cuddle-Worthy Throws

Nicole (one of our fab employees!) took these amazing beach sunset images to show off how soft and cuddly our new Silky Fleece Beach throws are. But the pictures turned out so incredible of our Moss Beach, California location - we had to share them with all of you.

Plus we had a little help from Stella! (our newest model!)

Pics all taken at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve Park - about 25 minutes south of San Francisco on Hwy 1, and about 15 minutes north of Half Moon Bay.

A wonderful protected beach location perfect for exploring tide pools full of urchins, starfish, periwinkles, limpets and so many other tiny sea creatures. If you're lucky, you might even get to catch a glimpse of a harbor seal or a sea lion lounging on the flat rock formations. If you are REALLY lucky, you might even get to see the blows from passing humpback or grey whales!

Still can't believe that we actually get to live here...

Stella was definitely a trouper! And I think she has a new favorite super soft throw to wrap up in when her mom makes her take California sunset pics for us.... lol

Summer Stone Fruit Sangria - Perfect for Parties at the Beach

There is just nothing quite like real summertime nectarines and plums - especially if you are lucky enough to have your own fruit trees or a local farm stand nearby.  (we are incredibly blessed to have a wonderful family farm between our house and the ocean!)

Here's what you need for your Summer Stone Fruit Sangria:

  • 1/4 cup Vanilla Simple Syrup
  • 1+ cup sliced Nectarines (we used a combination of white and yellow)
  • 1 cup sliced ripe red/purple plums
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • 1/2  cup Peach Brandy
  • 1 Bottle Sauvignon Blanc (White Wine)
  • Fresh Mint sprigs for garnish

Place the sliced nectarines, plums and strawberries in a large pitcher. Pour the simple syrup over the fruit, then add the peach brandy and give it a quick stir to meld together. Add the Sauvignon Blanc wine to your pitcher and chill until ready to serve. Chill ideally overnight, but at least 4 hours if you can wait.

Fill your glasses with ice and pour in your sangria, being careful to also spoon in some of the fruit. Garnish with Mint!

A few tips:
1. Don't peel your fruit - adds so much pretty color and no need to waste time peeling

2. Stir carefully so that your fruit does not get "smashed" but can still marinate in the wine and brandy

3. Can also add sparkling water just before serving to give your Sangria a little extra special pop!

Featuring a few of our favorite coastal cocktail pieces!

Stemless Whale Tumblers $49.90

And a few pretty coral pillows!

Enjoy!

Summer Tomato and Avocado Salad

Perfect for summer and absolutely delish! I promise.

We live for summer fresh tomatoes and fresh garden produce at my house and absolutely had to try this recipe that Tom discovered in our most recent issue of Sunset Magazine (highly recommend this magazine by the way!)

Super easy with summer ingredients that are readily available at your local farm stand or at the grocery store. Plus - look how pretty, and elegant this Summer Tomato and Avocado salad is to serve!

Ingredients:

  • 1 sliced large English cucumber or several small Persian cucumbers
  • 2 Medium Heirloom Tomatoes,  cut into small wedges
  • 3/4 - 1 pint of colorful cherry tomatoes, cut in half
  • 2 small ripe avocados, cut into thin slices
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 2 tsp. sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro; leaves and stems included
  • Kosher Salt
1. Layer larger tomato wedges and cucumber on a serving platter. Then layer on smaller halfed cherry tomatoes, followed by avocado slices
2. Mix together olive oil, soy sauce and rice wine vinegar until well blended and then drizzle over salad
3. Sprinkle sesame seeds and cilantro on top to give your pretty salad a gorgeous finishing touch!
4. Add Kosher salt to taste (might not need any)

You will most definitely will impress your beach home guests with your "culinary" skills!

Did you see us in HGTV Magazine?

So excited to see our bright, coral pink Striped Umbrella and Beach Balls pillow featured in the June 2018 issue of HGTV Magazine!  It's truly one of our favorites for summer decorating at the beach - Don't be surprised if you find yourself daydreaming about fun in the sun after tossing this coral pink bright colored pillow on your sofa. Or anywhere that just needs a little happiness!

Look for us in the "50 Outdoor Pillows We Love" article in the June 2018 issue of HGTV magazine! One correction though, the price of these Made in America pillows is slightly less than what was in the magazine - they are $48.00, not $50.00

Here are just a few of our favorite beachy throw pillows for summer - also all under $50.00!

Decorating with Glass Fishing Floats

So excited to have my friend Judy Thorne write a guest blog post for us!  She lives in a wonderful house right on Colvos Passage just a tiny bit north of Point Richmond in Gig Harbor, Washington.  Tom and I have been so lucky to have been invited to visit on a few occasions - some awesome views of sea lions and salmon....

Enjoy Judy's great ideas for decorating with vintage fishing floats!   -  Caron

If you’re like me, you’re always looking for new ways and ideas to add coastal decor to your home. I love showcasing my special shell finds and integrating shell and starfish motifs into wall decor, table settings and of course, pillows.

But not too long ago, I decided to bring something “vintage” into my beachy decor. I don’t have room for a giant ship’s wheel or crossed oars, but I do have room for something smallish. That’s why I am so excited to see how glass fishing floats bring a nautical-beachy-coastal vibe to any home in countless ways. They can do the same for you, too.

Put several in a wire or woven basket, mix them in with a display of seashells, place one on a table, desk or in a bookcase, line them up on a window ledge to capture the light, or incorporate several into a coastal mantel display.

You can even take them outside and float them in a water feature. They are super versatile — coming in a variety of sizes, with or without netting.

Glass fishing floats were first used to keep fishermen’s nets afloat in the 1840s in Scandinavia. Around 1910, Japan began hand blowing glass floats from used aqua and green sake (wine) bottles — it was an early example of recycling.

The netting that held them in place was hand-tied by the fishermen who used them. In the 1970s glass floats slowly gave way to plastic floats and today are no longer used in fishing. Although millions of floats were made in Japan — and some still float free in ocean currents and occasionally wash up on a beach after a storm —  their number is finite.

If you’d like to decorate with these tiny jewels of the sea, you have a lot of choices! You can go vintage and buy floats that have done the work, traveling thousands of miles at sea for decades, and still have sparkle and shine, like the ones at my Etsy shop, justbeachynow.etsy.com

Or you can purchase beautiful, brand-new replicas in beachy colors, such as the ones featured at Caron’s Beach House, www.caronsbeachhouse.com.

Whether you choose vintage or new, your glass floats will reflect the romantic, rugged past of the world’s oceans!

What’s been really fun for me, besides turning small floats into Christmas ornaments each year, is using floats to create a seasonal centerpiece on our dining table. With a driftwood hurricane and candle as the anchor, I add driftwood, shells, starfish and several vintage glass floats.
