A Mardi Gras Gourmet Treat - Emeril's Jambalaya!

Emeril Lagasse's recipe was so good!  And pretty darn easy to follow - just make sure to have everything assembled, including the veggies chopped, before starting, as everything cooks really quickly.  The worst thing to do to seafood is to overcook it - so watch the shrimp!

I followed his recipe to the letter, except I cheated on his "Essence of Creole Seasoning" - I keep Zatarin's Creole Seasoning in my cupboard for occasions just like this! (Great in steamed clams....)  Served with a nice Sauvignon Blanc from Pagemill Winery.   Scrumptious!

This turned out so yummy that we ate the leftovers all week long for lunch!

12 medium shrimp, peeled, deveined and chopped
School of Fish Glassware
4 oz. diced chicken
1 T. Creole Seasoning (recipe on the bottom of the page)
2 T. olive oil
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/4 cup chopped celery
2 T. chopped garlic
1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
3 bay leaves
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. hot sauce
3/4 cup rice
3 cups chicken stock
5 oz. Andouille sausage - sliced
Salt and Pepper to Taste

Combine shrimp, chicken in a bowl - stir in Creole seasoning and set aside. In a large (deep) saucepan, heat oil over high heat; add onion, bell pepper and celery.  Cook for 3 minutes.  Add garlic, tomatoes, bay leaves, Worcestershire sauce and hot sauces.  Stir well, and cook for a few minutes.  Stir in rice and slowly add broth.  Reduce heat to medium and cook until rice absorbs liquid and becomes tender, stirring occasionally (add extra water if necessary) for about 15 minutes. When rice is just tender add shrimp and chicken mixture and sausage.  Cook until meat is done, about 10 minutes more. Season to taste with salt, pepper and more Creole seasoning.

Coastal Decorating Trend: Nautical Anchors and Rope Patterns

I am still sorting through photos and catalogs from the Las Vegas Market.  So of course, I have one more trend to show you - anchors, more anchors and nautical rope patterns in every kind of home decorating product for spring and summer.

Here are a few of the items that I managed to snap pics of -

1st on the list: Fun area rugs with details of  rope and anchor twists in all kinds of colors!
(will be available after May 2014)

Luxury down-filled oversized pillows in classic nautical patterns and colors! Another discovery of fabulous Made in America product - will be available on our website within the next week.

Embroidered Pillows - love to mix and match some "nautical" themes with seashells and sealife!
(P.S. All of these can be found on our website)

We found some really interesting art pieces - love these carved nautical and sealife panels!  (The rattan lighting is pretty awesome too.)

We saw a lot of  different "rope" lamps - I am excited about all of the different styles that are coming on the market.  From beach cottage looks to more coastal sophistication.   This "monkey fist" knot lamp was one of the cute (affordable) beach cottage styles that we spotted!

Thought these thick rope handled clear Lucite trays were really awesome.  Would make a great gift for a boater!  (hoping to have these available for our customers this spring)

This set of navy blue and white vases is just one example of the different kinds of nautical home accents that we discovered. What do you think of the propeller?  I am not sure what I think.... but I do like the anchor and the ship's wheel.

So crazy about these new anchor barware glasses!

I am very encouraged, as this nautical trend only seems to grow,  and more interesting rugs, lamps and home accents become available for our customers.   There is just more options to fit every budget, lifestyle and decorating style.

Make sure to check out our "Nautical Decorating" category for more ideas like these!

Coastal Decorating Trend - Whale Spotting!

Okay.... maybe I am a little bit biased after our whale watching trip earlier this year - but I can't help spotting whales every where this year in spring decorating ideas.  A few weeks ago, when we were at the Vegas show, whale images were incorporated into just about every product imaginable - from rugs to tabletop.

Here's just a small peek from our trip to the Las Vegas Market!

And here's a few room ideas that I've been collecting on Pinterest-

Just a touch of whale in this darling nautical cottage room featured in the pages of Country Living Magazine.

A "Whalecome" sign in a rustic Nantucket cottage - how cute is this?? (also Country Living)

And an added bonus above the kitchen sink - a modified whale weathervane!
(sorry - not sure of the source)

And here's a few of the new "Whale" Decor items that we've just added to our site -

A "Welcome" Whale Sign - you can order in white or aqua, and can even change the "Welcome" into your own words!

New "Moby" Glassware!  LOVE these

Fun new Northshore Whale "Under the Deep Blue Sea"  embroidered pillow - love these colors and details!

Classic nautical colors with an adorable red whale - lots of other pillows now available to match!

Our Jonah the Whale carved  mango wood bookends would add a sea faring touch to a nautical room!

Would love to know what you think. Would you add a few "whale" items to update for spring?
Stay tuned, I am sure that we will be finding even more pieces to share!
