Beach Decor Ideas for Fall - Tip #1

Fall Decorating Tip #1 - A cozy, warm luxury throw to snuggle up in.

Coastal decorating has a bad reputation as being more "summer" related, but living at the beach is anything but always "summer".  With a little creativity, you can live and decorate at the beach every day of the year.

As I am sure many of you can attest, living near the coast during the fall and winter months can be damp, dreary, and downright cold. It is also so incredibly beautiful and wild with stormy days, tipped with wind whipped seas.  I could happily wile away many very happy hours, with a good book and  my coffee cup, simply listening to the wind and waves.

These Oregon Coast photos were captured during a crazy stormy week that we spent perched above the sea in a 1950's era cottage in Newport Oregon.  Our roof leaked, (terribly!)  and our bathroom was Pepto-Pink, but we didn't care, because the entire ocean side of the cottage was all glass...

A new throw can either be a great accent piece, or can add just the right pop of color that you need to complete your coastal room for fall  Changing out your spring-summer lighter, brighter colored throws for warmer, thicker, cozier feeling throws is such a an easy change to make - and doesn't cost an arm and a leg to completely change the look of your favorite sofa.
Here are a few of my favorites!

The Hampton from Bedford Cottage  - simply love the loosely knit cable knit pattern, and all of the colors that it is available in.  Would be difficult to to decide which color to order!

The Mariner Knit Throw from Lands End  - just a few navy stripes make this perfect!  Looks so soft, but yet still has that nautical feel.

OOOO... so luscious!  Love these cable knit Alpaca throws from Restoration Hardware.  They only come in a few shades - but Restoration's commitment to neutral colors definitely works with these throws
"Exceptionally cozy and lush, our throws are knit from a sumptuous blend of virgin wool and high-mountain alpaca, which are prized for their fine fleece and lightweight warmth. "

And of course, I have been drooling over Thomas Paul's Octopus designed throws for a long time!  Love the gray, or maybe the indigo? Found these  pretty throws over at My-Sparrow.com

Discovered these new cozy coastal designed throws -  hoping to have them on our site very soon!  Soft, oversized, cotton, reversible, with a nautical beach feeling, without being too "kitschy" (Always my goal!) Truly, these are my new favorites!  Can't wait to share them with you all  -

Have a great Monday!  I am off to make another pot of coffee, and wait for the rain in San Francisco today...

I like the rope motif ones. They are very fun.

Coastal decor for me is not the summery type...it is the natural coastal palette of fog and driftwood greys, sea greens/blues, sand beige, and seeweed dark browns, and seafoam whites. But then again I live near the Northern California coast which is much cooler. I like to add cozy throws and animal print toss pillows in autumn and winter. I love the throws you have here from restoration hardware and of course the octopus one!

Love the sage throw next to the vase of beach grass. I'm a big fan of greens in my beach house decor.
