December Exploring on the California Coast

I don't really care if there are a few raindrops. As long as I can see the waves and hear the Pacific, I am more than good.  Besides, raindrops create spectacular rainbows...

We were able to stop the car at Pigeon Point Lighthouse, jump out and run down to the beach quick enough to get this rainbow before it disappeared.

After breakfast at Gazos Grill, (a great place for Sunday breakfast on Hwy 1, just past the Lighthouse) we headed back north hoping to be able to outrun the rain for a quick beach walk.

We've driven by Cowell Ranch State Beach countless times, but never stopped.  On Sunday, we stopped.

Wow.

It's an extremely peaceful (easy) half mile walk down a gravel path to get to the beach.  Bird watching - hawks play in the wind. Half way down the path, you will come across the "Whale Gate" -a lovely rusty reminder that Cowell Ranch is still a working farm,  and has been for many generations.

 I needed this...
Needed to hear the roar of the Pacific...

Not a single soul on the beach except for us....

Found a few beautiful shells to carry home in our pockets.... Tom even found a few tiny pieces of green and blue sea glass.

I think I can tackle Monday.

Is the last person someone doing pushups on the sand (you?), or a very large sea creature? Intriguing!

Tricia -
It's an old very big, very rusty truck engine. There are several things like that on the beach here. VERY VERY cool beach walk.

I love it when you write about going out and exploring the beaches and towns around you. It's so great the way you LIVE what you LOVE - you're making the most out of your life & opportunities, and apart from the price of fuel in the car, such fieldtrips are FREE. They also give depth and immediacy to your work, which is all about the BEACH that we love so much. Good for you!

This is one of my favourite posts. So many things to love about it, especially your moody shots. How incredible is that whale gate? I'm totally in love with it. How amazing to find such a quiet, undisturbed place and not a soul around. Simply perfect. Pruxxx

Rain never stopped me from going to the beach, I love the raindrops on the waves. Funny, my friend Julie @ Being Ruby just posted about here trip to Noosa Beach in Australia. The rain didn't keep her away either. Signs of a real beach lover is that you love the beach on any given day! Thanks for sharing such lovely photos of my favorite ocean!
